What to Expect

  • Machinery & Innovation: Live demonstrations of the latest tractors, equipment, and ag-tech. It also hosts the "Innovation Awards" for new rural inventions.
  • Competitions: High-energy events including the Tractor Pull, Speed Shearing, the NZ Fencing Competition, and excavator operator challenges.
  • Lifestyle & Leisure: Beyond farming, there are stalls for hunting, jet boating, outdoor apparel, and home/garden products.
  • Food & Socializing: Known for its "community feel," the event features a wide range of local food (including the famous Southland cheese rolls) and is a key social date for the South Island farming community.

History

Started in 1982 by the Eastern Southland Young Farmers Club with just 60 exhibitors, it has grown into a massive professional exhibition run largely by a dedicated team of volunteers. It alternates years with the South Island Agricultural Field Days in Kirwee.
